Susan Brown Bio

Mother, wife, teacher, student, daughter, sister, child of the King, woman, friend, singer, reader, these are a few of the hats I wear. I’m also a “baby boomer,” who came into teaching late in life. I have been teaching pre-school for six years and this will be my third year at Woodway Christian School.

I have a background in several different areas. Previously, I worked at the Klaras Center with developmentally delayed children and for several years I worked at a rehab hospital with spinal cord and head injured patients. Along with my teaching certificate, I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Therapeutic Recreation.

Probably my biggest credential, they have no certificate or degree for, is “mother.” I have three wonderful teenagers (yes, you can say that in the same sentence!)

Remi - he’s a student at Blinn Junior College (19), K.C., my daughter, is a senior at Crawford (18), and Matt, my youngest (15), is a Sophomore athlete and student at Crawford also. Their dad, and the love of my life, Tim has been my husband for 22 years and he is the president of the Methodist Children’s Home. We met thirty years ago when I moved from Mobile, Alabama to Texas. So, if you pick up a Southern accent, that’s where it’s from. I have a dear Mother who is 84, two brothers, and various nieces and nephews who all live there.

My family and I live out in the country in Crawford with our two dogs, Bella and Zeke, and three cats - Tiger, Pouncer, and Lucky. I am a sentimental mush of an animal lover and convinced that Bella is 90% human. (Or we’ve made her that way.)

I came into teaching after my youngest child went off to school and I spent so much time there. I decided to go back to school to become a teacher myself. I truly feel God had been preparing me to teach for a long time as I had always done “teaching” in my previous positions - teaching parents how to deal with their developmentally delayed babies, teaching families and patients how to deal with life traumas, teaching VBS, Mission Friends, and then as a parent.

There is a saying, “Love what you do, do what you love.” I love teaching pre-school! Four year olds are precious little sponges that keep me young and bless me throughout the year. My heart’s desire is to prepare them for a lifelong love of learning and loving God.
